Cycling Around Kingwood and Humble
For those of you that like to take the family on a sunny ride through the neighborhood, you will find some awesome trails in Kingwood and the larger planned developments like Summerwood, Eagle Springs, Fall Creek, etc. And many people continue to take to the streets with their bikes, dogs and kids.
However, the main reason, I thought about cycling today, was to mention the BP MS 150 that was held this past weekend. If you are a more serious cyclist, you already know about it, but I thought I would mention it anyway.
The MS 150 is a bicycle ride from Houston to Austin that happens one weekend in April every year. The ride is sponsored by the National MS Society and the major corporate sponsor has been BP. The first day of the ride is from Houston to La Grange and the next day continues on to Austin. It’s not a race, it’s a ride. There are pit stops every 8 to 13 miles and there’s help in between. Lunch is also provided. Check with the local bike shops or the MS website for more information.
There are practice rides throughout the year. The Humble Lions Club sponsors one and the Kingwood Fillies has one too. You definitely need to do some practice riding before signing up to go. Just getting started, I think there is plenty of real estate to roll around on. I have put in 50 miles in one day riding around Kingwood. As I said check with the bike shops. There’s Bike Werks in Kingwood and Bike Barn off FM 1960.
